The very first Pivallianiq-KMHB Housing Pride Day took place under sunny skies on June 8, 2012. The six participating communities—Kuujjuarapik, Umiujaq, Puvirnituq, Salluit, Kangiqsujuaq and Kuujjuaq—held outdoor parties that attracted the young and old alike. The event was a resounding success, thanks to the efforts and achievements of nearly 90 families that are now Pivallianiq-certified. Almost 20 certified families throughout Nunavik won fabulous prizes.

Even the Sun joined in!

The very first Pivallianiq-KMHB Housing Pride Day in Kuujjuaq took place on June 8th, 2012. It was a beautiful, sunny day. Nearly one hundred citizens took part in the festivities. The event was a resounding success. It showcased the efforts and achievements of Pivallianiq-certified families. Kuujjuaq’s strong participation in the Pivallianiq Program was rewarded with fabulous prizes from the annual draw: a VIP trip to Montreal to see the Canadiens (Annie Annanack), a freezer (Sherryann Jones), a washer-dryer set (Mae Johannes) and a Honda 500 ATV (Susie J. Angnatuk). Congratulations to the many Kuujjuaq families with Pivallianiq certification, including Christina Dumont, Lucy Ekomiak and Tracy Patridge David who won door prizes, namely a 40' TV, an Xbox and Kinect, and one month free rent respectively.

Togetherness in a Festive Kuujjuaraapik!

In Kuujjuaraapik, Pivallianiq officer Patricia Crow brought together many Pivallianiq participants to celebrate the first Pivallianiq-KMHB Housing Pride Day. A country dinner and activities were organized for the event. The Kativik Municipal Housing Bureau held the annual draw for certified families. Kuujjuaraapik’s Lucy Sr. Fleming (2012) even won six months’ free rent! Congratulations to the many Kuujjuaraapik families with Pivallianiq certification, including Lizzie and Glen Calvin, Sarah Cookie et Daphne Tooktoo who won door prizes, namely a 40' TV, an Xbox and Kinect, and one month free rent, respectively.

A Blaze of Glory to Sweeten the Day!

Frigid June weather didn’t deter children, adolescents, parents and elders from coming in force at the edge of Hudson’s Bay to celebrate the first Pivallianiq-KMHB Housing Pride Day. While some celebrated from their cars, others came on ATVs and even bicycles. And to soothe Puvirnituq’s sweet tooth, a small campfire was built to roast marshmallows. Congratulations to the many Puvirnituq families with Pivallianiq certification, including Akisuk Putugu; Lizzie & Syra Tukalak; and Katsuak Alaku, Lizzie T. Kenuajuak & Paulusie Quara who won door prizes, namely a 40' TV, an Xbox and Kinect, and one month free rent, respectively.

Fantastic Turnout!

Festive music, fun and games, country dinner, loads of prizes – everything was in place to make this first edition a guaranteed success. Many volunteers and Pivallianiq team members were there to register community members wanting to join the program. A wonderful initiative!
